How to fill out a PDF form in four steps

Tips for a clean filled form

• Zoom in first. Small blanks are easier to hit at a larger size.
• Keep one text box per blank. It lines up better than one long box with spaces.
• Write dates the way the form asks, such as MM/DD/YYYY in the US.

Your answers stay private

Forms carry names, addresses and ID numbers. Here the file is filled inside your browser and never uploaded.

Leave «Add signature certificate» checked if the form gets signed. It adds a page with the date and the fingerprint of the original.

Is a signed PDF legally valid?

Yes, in most cases. In the US the ESIGN Act and state UETA laws give electronic signatures the same effect as ink.

The Philippines, India and the UK have their own electronic signature laws. Contracts, forms and receipts signed this way hold up in all of them.

Some documents still need ink or a notary. Wills, many powers of attorney and real estate deeds are the usual examples. Our guide to wet signatures lists them.
