How it gets signed
1Choose “Use this template”, fill in the fields and read the full letter of consent once more.
2Send it by WhatsApp or email. The other party opens the link on their phone without an account.
3They tap the brown bar at the bottom that says “Sign as …” and draw their signature with a finger.
4Everyone gets the signed PDF with its signature certificate. Anyone can check it at signsolu.com/verificar.
Before signing, each signer agrees to sign electronically. The screen links to the electronic signature disclosure the ESIGN Act asks for.
Only you sign this letter. Send the signed PDF to the recipient, or to the person who will present it.
Your first ten documents are free and need no card.
If the other side sends their own PDF form instead, fill in the PDF form online, add the date and your signature, and download it.
What the law says
A letter of consent records a person’s permission in writing. It is not a contract with duties on both sides. Its strength is that it is specific, dated and signed.
Some consents follow special rules, such as consent to share health records under HIPAA or consent for a child to travel. Use the HIPAA release form or the travel consent letter for those.
The ESIGN Act gives the electronic signature on the letter the same effect as ink.
Common reasons for a consent letter
Letting someone collect keys, documents or a package.
Allowing a neighbor or contractor to use your property or parking.
Agreeing that an employer or school may share your contact details.
Letting a relative speak to a company about your account.
Allowing a tenant to sublet or keep a pet, from the landlord’s side.
How to write it
1Name yourself and the recipient in full.
2Describe the act you allow in one clear sentence.
3Set dates, or say it lasts until you withdraw it.
4Add any limits.
5Sign and send the PDF.
Consent letter or power of attorney
A consent letter gives permission. A power of attorney letter lets someone act in your name, such as signing for you. If the person will sign documents or handle money for you, use the power of attorney.
A worked example
Sarah is out of town when her new apartment keys are ready. She signs a letter consenting that her brother Michael collect them.
The property manager reads the letter, checks it online and gives Michael the keys. The letter expires at the end of the month.
Sample consent sentences
“I consent to Green Lawn Services entering my backyard on Tuesdays to mow the lawn.”
“I consent to Lincoln Middle School sharing my email with the parent volunteer committee.”
“I consent to my tenant, Ana Ruiz, keeping one cat in unit 2B.”
“I consent to my neighbor parking in my driveway from November 1 to November 15.”
Mistakes to avoid
Too broad. “I consent to anything” protects nobody.
No end date. Old letters can be used long after you forgot them.
No contact. The recipient may refuse a letter they cannot confirm.
Consent letters landlords and tenants use
A landlord’s consent to a sublet, a pet or an alteration.
A tenant’s consent to a showing or an inspection at a set time.
A co-owner’s consent to rent out a shared property.
For a full sublet, the sublease agreement includes a landlord consent block.
Consent letters at work and school
An employee’s consent to a background check or to share references.
A parent’s consent for a child to join a club or leave school early.
A student’s consent to share grades with a scholarship program.
Some of these have their own forms. Ask the employer or school first. If they accept a letter, this template works.

A full sample letter
“I, Sarah Johnson, give my consent to Westside Property Management to hand the keys to unit 3A at 18 Pine Street to my brother, Michael Johnson, ID D7654321, between October 22 and October 31, 2026. This consent covers the keys only and does not change my lease. You can reach me at 608-555-0110.”
When the recipient asks for more
Some offices want an ID copy, a notary seal or their own form. Ask what they need before you send the letter. Most accept a signed PDF they can check online.
Withdrawing your consent
Write a short note to the recipient that you withdraw the consent given on a certain date. Sign it the same way and keep a copy. Anything done before the withdrawal stays valid.
Consent letter for a minor
For permissions that involve a child, such as joining a trip or receiving care from a relative, both parents usually sign. Add a second signature block and the child’s full name and date of birth. For travel, use the dedicated travel consent letter.
Keeping a record
Keep your copy of the signed letter until the period ends and a while after. If a dispute arises about what you allowed, the dated letter answers it.
SignSolú keeps it in your account with its certificate, so you can find it again in seconds.
Share the signed PDF with the person who will present it, so they can show it from their phone. Keep the original link in case the recipient wants to check it again.
Is a letter of consent signed online legally binding?
Yes. The ESIGN Act gives an electronic signature the same legal effect as a handwritten one. The signed PDF and its certificate show who signed the letter of consent, when and from which device.
Does the recipient need to sign the letter?
No. Only the person giving consent signs. The recipient keeps the signed PDF.
Can I download the letter of consent in Word?
Yes. “Download in Word” gives you the full letter of consent with no email and no account. You can print it or edit it and sign it here later.
Can I withdraw my consent?
Yes, in writing, as clause 4 says. It does not undo what was already done.
Does a consent letter need a notary?
Usually not. Some offices ask for one. Check with the recipient.
Can I use it for a child’s travel?
Use the travel consent letter instead. It includes the details airlines and border officers look for.
Can a consent letter be signed by two people?
Yes. Add a second signature block if two owners or two parents must agree.
