Reviewed in October 2026
A Georgia automobile bill of sale is a written record that a car changed hands. It shows the vehicle, the odometer reading, the price and both parties. The Georgia Department of Revenue publishes its own version, Form T-7, and asks for the same core data this template collects.

What the law says
The Georgia Department of Revenue publishes Form T-7, Bill of Sale, revised in September 2022. It is used as evidence that the sale took place and that the seller declared the odometer reading and the buyer acknowledged it.
Form T-7 notes that vehicles twenty model years old or older are exempt from odometer disclosure. The seller may write "exempt" in that space.
The form is filed with the required documents and tax at the county tag office of the primary buyer's county. A Georgia title is required for 1986 or newer motor vehicles, among other types listed on the form.
The ESIGN Act, 15 U.S.C. 7001 gives an electronic signature the same legal effect as one on paper. A contract cannot be denied effect only because it was signed electronically.
This template or Form T-7
Form T-7 is the state's own bill of sale. The county tag office knows it well, and it states that any correction or alteration voids it.
This template collects the same data and adds price terms, liens, condition and delivery. Many sellers sign this agreement first and copy the data into Form T-7 for the tag office.
Signing online gives both sides a clean, dated record before the car leaves the driveway. Nobody has to cross out a mistake on paper.
What the buyer takes to the tag office
The Georgia title signed over by the seller, for 1986 or newer vehicles.
The bill of sale with the odometer reading.
The Title Ad Valorem Tax, estimated with the state's TAVT estimator.
A court order, if a court ordered the sale.
The office is in the county where the primary buyer lives. Bring a printed copy of the signed bill of sale or show the PDF.
Common mistakes
Writing tenths on the odometer. Form T-7 asks for whole miles. Round down and write the number once.
Leaving out the buyer's county. The tag office of that county receives the paperwork, so write it clearly.
Not listing a lien. A car with an open loan needs the lienholder's release before the sale. Write the lender in clause 4.
Getting paid safely in a Georgia private sale
Cash and cashier's checks are the usual choices. Meet at the buyer's bank when the amount is large, so the teller confirms the funds.
Do not hand over the title until the money is in your account. A signed bill of sale with the price paid protects the seller only after payment clears.
If the buyer pays by bank transfer, wait for the confirmation in your own banking app. Screenshots sent by the buyer are not proof of payment.
What the buyer should check before signing
The VIN on the dashboard, the door jamb and the title match.
The name on the title is the seller's name.
The title shows no open lien, or the seller has the lien release.
A mechanic you trust has looked at the vehicle.
A vehicle history report shows no salvage or flood record.
Once both sides are satisfied, send the bill of sale for signature. In Georgia, buyer and seller usually sign the same day the keys change hands.
Is a Georgia bill of sale signed online legally binding?
Yes. The ESIGN Act gives electronic signatures the same effect as handwritten ones. The signed PDF and its certificate show who signed and when.
Does a Georgia bill of sale need a notary?
No. Form T-7 has signature lines for sellers and buyers and no notary block.
Do I need a bill of sale for a car older than 20 years?
Yes, it still records the sale and price. Only the odometer reading is exempt, and you may write "exempt".
Can I sign the title itself on my phone?
No. The title follows the state's own process, on paper or as an electronic title where the state offers one. The bill of sale is the document you sign here.
Does the other party need a SignSolú account?
No. They open the link on their phone and sign with the brown bar at the bottom.
Can I edit the clauses before sending it?
Yes. After «Use this template» you can change any clause before you send it.
